The expansion will allow El Ingenio to exceed 100 stores, reach nearly 50,000 m² of commercial space, and surpass 10 million annual visits.
El Ingenio Shopping Centre will soon begin a new stage of growth after completing the necessary urban planning procedures and obtaining the corresponding building permit for its expansion.
This project involves an investment of approximately 14 million euros and will add more than 4,500 m² of new space for commercial premises, responding to the growing demand from operators and consumers on the Eastern Costa del Sol.
Thanks to this expansion, El Ingenio will exceed 100 stores and reach nearly 50,000 m² of commercial space, expanding the variety of brands, services, and experiences available to its customers.
The project will generate approximately 155 new jobs linked to the opening and activity of the new establishments, reinforcing El Ingenio’s role as one of the main economic drivers in the region.
A growing asset.
El Ingenio is entering this new phase from a position of strength, with 100% commercial occupancy and footfall exceeding 9.2 million visits per year.
With the addition of new operators, Grupo Sociedad Azucarera Larios expects to exceed 10 million visitors per year, consolidating the centre’s ability to attract residents, tourists and visitors from across the Eastern Costa del Sol.
One of the main factors behind this success is its strategic location. Located next to the A-7 motorway and directly connected to the A-356 road and Avenida Juan Carlos I, El Ingenio has established itself as the main commercial hub of the Eastern Costa del Sol.
A vision for the future of the Axarquía.
The expansion, which has now been authorised and is due to begin imminently, forms part of a broader growth strategy for the area surrounding El Ingenio.
This vision is supported by the progress of the Vélez-Málaga General Urban Development Plan, which identifies this area as one of the municipality’s main zones for economic and service-sector development.
The aim is to develop a large integrated space for commercial, business and service activities around El Ingenio, contributing to the economic growth of Vélez-Málaga and the whole Axarquía region.
A leading retail park for medium-sized stores in Andalusia.
As the next phase of development, Grupo Sociedad Azucarera Larios is promoting the creation of a retail park for medium-sized stores that will complement the current offering with operators specialised in homeware, DIY, decoration, equipment and other large-format commercial uses.
Once completed, the complex formed by El Ingenio, its expansion and the future retail park for medium-sized stores will reach approximately 100,000 m² of space for commercial premises, integrated into a single retail destination, becoming one of the most important commercial complexes in southern Spain.
The scale of the project, its strategic location and the strength of its potential market will make it possible to attract operators that currently have no presence on the Eastern Costa del Sol, bringing residents and visitors a retail offering that can currently only be found in large metropolitan areas.
More than 100 million euros of investment and 3,000 jobs.
Grupo Sociedad Azucarera Larios, owner of El Ingenio, is driving this project and has the technical and financial capacity required for its development, with the aim of turning it into a retail benchmark for the Costa del Sol.
The full development of the retail park for medium-sized stores will involve an investment of nearly 100 million euros.
In addition to the new retail offering, the project will include offices, a hotel establishment, high-quality public spaces and new access infrastructure, creating one of the main hubs of economic activity in the region.
The complex formed by El Ingenio and the future retail park for medium-sized stores will generate more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, reinforcing its contribution to the economic development of the Eastern Costa del Sol.
The forecast is that the entire set of projects could be fully operational within less than four years.
